Boarding at Verbier International School
An experience of a lifetime

Verbier International School (VIS) is pleased to announce the opening of its new boarding house, Chalet l’Epervier, as of August 2021. VIS Boarding is offered to students in Years 7 -11, during term times. The boarding house is a free-standing chalet with a garden, conveniently located within walking distance of the school, the local sports centre and two minutes from the nearest bus stop.

Chalet l’Epervier is a typical Swiss Alpine chalet built in wood and stone. With its large sunny terrace, garden and three storeys it provides a cosy and safe haven for its residents. Spread over three floors; top floor allocated to the boys’ bedrooms, the middle floor for the house parents and the ground floor bedrooms for the girls, the house can welcome up to a dozen students. Bedrooms are for one or two sharing. The chalet also has a dining room, living room, kitchen, several bathrooms and a large storage cellar. It is fully equipped with Wifi, cable television, games and designated study areas. All outdoor doors can be locked and secured.

Living in the Chalet

At Chalet l’Epervier, the ethos is to help and respect one another. Living together under the same roof creates a sense of family away from home and each individual is valued. Inclusivity is crucial to the wellbeing of each student and is something VIS Boarding takes great care to ensure. Residents are expected to participate in group activities, help out with simple house chores and ensure house rules are adhered to.

The house parents live in the chalet with the students throughout the school year. They are there to ensure the smooth running of the chalet and to provide comfort, reassurance and guidance to each student under their roof.

Typical Day

At Chalet l’Epervier a typical day of residential life starts with either a cooked breakfast or a Continental option served from 7:00 – 8:00 before heading off to school. After school, depending on extracurricular activities, residents return home and can either participate in a group activity or study in their rooms or collaboratively with other students in one of the common rooms, before dinner. Dinner is served from 18:30 – 19:30 and afterwards students have the option to work quietly in their rooms, watch a movie or play a game. House parents are always at hand to supervise, support and encourage.

We moved to Switzerland from California for the Spring term of 2017. LVIS was a great educational and cultural experience for our three children. They received the educational challenges and support they needed to advance. In particular their language skills in French improved dramatically. I would highly recommend the school to any family considering relocating to Verbier. We wish we could have stayed longer.

Weekend life

Weekends at Chalet l’Epervier are spent indulging in a multitude of activities that Verbier, and its surrounding areas, have to offer. From skiing and snowboarding in winter to hiking, biking, and climbing in summer plus a number of organized activities such as horseback riding, golf, tennis, sailing, paragliding, snowshoeing, ski mountaineering, and more.

There are also excursions planned such as visiting cities, going to museums, day trips to cultural sites or nature reserves to a number of organized activities such a horse-riding, golf, tennis, sailing, paragliding, snowshoeing, ski mountaineering to name a few. All students are encouraged to take part and a minimum of two separate activities are proposed each weekend. There is something for everyone and there is no such thing as bad weather to prevent us from having fun at the weekends.

Study time and time to relax is factored in so each student feels rested and prepared for the week ahead

Boarding Term Schedule

The boarding school provides the same term schedule as the school. Meaning term breaks; 3 weeks over Christmas
and New Year, 1 week in February, 1 week at Easter and 1 week in May give students time to return home and enjoy time
with their families before returning to school and boarding life again when the term resumes.
