For the stages preceding high school, we believe in small classes providing our students with a tailored education. Teachers at the Verbier International School rely on up-to-date teaching practices and are well resourced to help children develop to their full potential. We are fortunate to benefit from an international teaching staff who are highly motivated and bring with them a broad spectrum of teaching experience.
We provide a broad, balanced and creative curriculum following the English National Curriculum.
We pursue excellence through building self-confidence, perseverance, and independence, giving children the skills they need to succeed.
We understand the importance of celebrating success, progress, and attainment every day in all areas of school life.
We promote a healthy and active lifestyle with a wide choice of sports and excursions.
We value and encourage curiosity and seek to develop a risk-taking learning culture
We cultivate and maintain good links with the Verbier community and plan many trips, visits, and visitors to enrich the learning of our pupils.
Above all, we foster a safe, happy environment, where everyone is valued and respected.
Passport to higher education
Located in our welcoming new building at the heart of town, the Verbier International School’s Secondary School offers a balanced, first-class education that fosters creativity, critical thinking, and open-mindedness to the cultures and beliefs of others.
While we follow the English National Curriculum, our excellent, diverse teaching team infuses the pupils’ learning experiences with an international approach and expertly prepares pupils for further studies in IGCSE.
The Verbier International School’s Secondary School offers studies in the following age groups:
11-12 years old: Year 7
12-13 years old: Year 8
13-14 years old: Year 9
14-15 years old: Year 10
15-16 years old: Year 11
All students in VIS Secondary School are instructed in our core subjects: Maths, English, the 3 Sciences, French, History, Geography, Art, Physical Education and our after-school (CAS) programme.
Students at VIS follow an intensive French Language program and are assessed and placed according to their appropriate level upon arrival. Native French Speakers follow the Swiss PER (Plan d’études romand – niveau cycle). These studies help to prepare the pupils if they choose to write entrance exams to either a local Collège or an Ecole Professionnelle. French Language Learners are taught the foundations of grammar, written communication, reading and comprehension, and oral expression, while also benefiting from a French-speaking environment in which to practice their spoken French on a daily basis.
The Verbier International School also welcomes English Language Learners, who receive an individually adapted program of intensive English study in grammar, written communication, reading comprehension and oral expression, while also being integrated in our core subjects. This programme leads to the Cambridge KET, PET and First certificate.
VIS places an emphasis on sports, the arts and community outreach, thereby offering ample opportunities for pupils to participate in activities each term, including tennis, crossfit, climbing, golf, skating, swimming, choir, drama productions, eco club, gardening and techlabs – not to mention our intensive and renowned ski program between the months of January and April.
With our smaller class sizes and special attention to the particular needs of each individual, the Middle School at VIS develops the personality of each student and helps them to become principled, balanced and risk tasking global citizens.
